1. Why Train at First Health?
Most traditional training programs are not effective because individuals rely on machines that isolate movements in single planes of motion. However, the human body does not work in this fashion. The human body works dynamically with movements in multiple planes of motion, with muscles working synergistically to produce force and maintain balance.
2. What is the ultimate goal for patients who train at First Health?
First Health Physical Therapy is here to heal and care for everyone who steps into our facility. We provide an integrated physical therapy and sports medicine training program for all clients. Our main focus is to improve functional and athletic performance in every one of our clients.
3. Do I need a physician’s referral for Physical Therapy?
Yes, a physician’s referral for Physical Therapy is needed. One can go ten visits in 30 days without a referral; however, following your ten visits, a referral would be needed to continue with therapy.
4. Will my insurance cover Physical Therapy services?
Yes, insurances normally do cover Physical Therapy, but at a certain percentage; some cover at full. Please call our office, and our staff will help you verify your benefits for you and explain in detail to you, prior to your visit here.
5. How do I schedule my appointment?
To schedule an appointment with our therapists, please call, fax or email us.
6. What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
FHPT is a one-on-one facility, where our therapists work solely on one patient at a time. Please remember that an appointment means that we have reserved that time especially for you.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please give us at least 24 hours notice so that another patient may be treated at that time.
7. What should I bring to my initial visit?
On your first visit to physical therapy, please be sure to bring:
- Your driver’s license or identification card
- Your prescription for physical therapy
- Your insurance card (primary and secondary)
- Any MRI, operative, and/or x-ray reports are always helpful in your care.
- Comfortable clothing (we do provide robes and changes of clothes here if needed)
- You can download forms here to fill out and bring to your first visit or fax them to us at 212 421 1750.
Please include a cover sheet with your name, day-time phone number and the number of pages.
8. What should I expect on my first visit?
On your first visit, we will give you an initial evaluation. Your physical therapist will take a thorough history of your condition and then take specific tests and measurements to pinpoint your area to be treated. Your therapist will use this data to make a clinical judgment of your diagnosis and prognosis. Then your therapist will work together with you towards planning the best way to resolve the problems identified. Goals and plans for your therapy will be explained thoroughly before your following visits.
9. How long will my visits last?
Your initial visit is approximately 1 hour. We also ask that you arrive 15 minutes prior to this appointment to complete necessary paperwork. Treatment sessions, after the initial evaluation, typically last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour depending on the patient and their diagnosis.
10. How many visits will I have to come in for?
Depending on the diagnosis, we will work with you and your physician in determining the amount of visits that will be needed for you to improve your condition.
11. How is my progress measured?
Our therapists will fill you in on and discuss your progress with you, as you are evaluated at every session for improvements. Please inform your therapist of any new physician appointments so that they can re-evaluate and determine the best treatment methods for you.
12. What is your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is exclusively for you. It is for this reason that we request you give us a minimum of 24 hours notice when canceling or you will be charged $75.
